Prime Minister Nicolae-Ionel Ciucă Met with a Delegation of the American –Romanian Business Council (AMRO)
February 22, 2022 — Today, Prime Minister Nicolae-Ionel Ciuca met with representatives of American companies, members of the American-Romanian Business Council.
The meeting is part of the Romanian Government's sustained efforts to attract and develop large-scale foreign investment in Romania. The dialogue, which marked AMRO's tenth anniversary, benefited from the presence of the largest delegation of American companies arriving in Romania under the aegis of AMRO.
"We are interested in increasing the level of Romanian-American economic relations, offering development and investment opportunities," stated Prime Minister Nicolae-Ionel Ciucă. "The developments in the security situation and the geopolitical context confer attractiveness to Romania, including from the perspective of relocation of businesses carried out in the Asia-Pacific area."
The participants in the meeting emphasized the importance of the investments generated within the Romanian-American Strategic Partnership for the creation of economic opportunities, prosperity and jobs, in areas such as digitalization, medicine, energy, defence, cyber sector, financial banking area , exploitation of natural resources.
A strengthened presence of American investors and the development of businesses can generate, in their turn, partnership opportunities for Romanian companies in Romania, but also opportunities to enter the US market.
Prime Minister Ciucă mentioned the benefits offered by new technologies, nuclear energy and renewable resources, for coping with the challenges posed by rising energy and natural gas prices. Regarding the important projects carried out in the field of defence, the Prime Minister pointed out that there is a need for capabilities to maintain the equipment purchased from the USA, being necessary to consolidate their presence in Romania.
Prime Minister thanked the representatives of the American business sector and the US for their support to Romania in obtaining the official invitation to join the OECD, which brings together countries holding 90 percent of foreign direct investment worldwide.
"We need your presence here. At the meeting with the representatives of the American Chamber of Commerce in Romania, I launched the challenge to find out the investment intentions of American businessmen. I am glad to see, today, the answer to this question, though your presence here, which is the best and tangible proof of the American interest to invest in Romania. The reforms we are carrying out to meet OECD standards will make our country an even more attractive destination for investors, which will accelerate the pace of modernization and development that our citizens expect, " stated Prime Minister Nicolae-Ionel Ciucă.
